Basic Concepts of Future and Forex Trading

Basically traders are speculators which are the largest groups of Futures traders. It is possible to be a trader for both futures and Forex trading.

Futures trading is a very popular trading activity. It offers a broad mixture of markets that can be traded at a low cost that is a low commission, and does not have any day trading limitation like the ordinary stock market.

Futures markets trade Futures contracts to make a profit on differences between the buying and the selling price without actually ever owning the commodity itself. The day traders have to have an in-depth knowledge on when the current futures contract will expire so that they are not left in the open.

There are three players in the Futures markets: the producers, the speculators and the end-users. Producers sell to lock in profits. Speculators are sandwiched between the end user and the producer providing a market buffer. They buy or sell to make a profit but not to use the actual goods or products. The end users buy in order to use the product in their processing or business concern.

Forex trading or foreign exchange trading, on the other hand is an over-the-counter market where the buyers and the sellers transact the foreign exchange. It is useful as it helps to enable trade and transactions between countries and is an investment opportunity for individuals who like to partake in speculation.

Forex traders take a careful look at different economic and political positions of countries as these two factors have a great impact on the direction of their currencies. What makes Forex trading unique is that it works on a 24 hour trading as it deals with countries with different time zones. If Wall Street can trade billions of dollars in a day, the Forex can trade to up to 4 trillion dollars in that one day.

Both the Futures and Forex trading activities are based on speculation and can be very risky. Traders for both of these activities use gut feel and knowledge of current affairs to predict or speculate how the market will end for that day. Most of the decisions are based on intellect and common sense. Risk management is very important in these activities for the trader.

Futures and Forex trading is actually just like trading in the stock market but with differences. For a would be trader it would be wise to study each market first before deciding on which is more comfortable.
